This 10-minute non-invasive computerized tomography (CT) study detects deposits of plaque in the walls of the heart. These deposits are an early sign of heart disease and can identify if a person is at increased risk for heart attack.
Those at increased risk include individuals with the following factors:
- Men > 45 years of age or women > 55 years of age
- Family history of coronary artery disease
- History of smoking or current smoker
- High blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes
- Inactive lifestyle
The results of this non-invasive test can contribute valuable information towards your cardiac diagnosis and future plan of care.
The Calcium Score test is currently not covered by most insurance companies and is therefore a self pay test. The test can be ordered by any physician using the CTA Order Form or the Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Department Order Sheet.
